18th & 19th Century Oxford Documents

Funded by the Janet Malser Humanities Trust

The Oxford Public Library and the General Ebenezer Learned D.A.R. of Oxford worked together to write a grant from the Janet Malser Humanities Trust to conserve 8 Oxford historical documents from the 18th and 19th century. These documents included:

Oxford History Museum

The Oxford Library Museum is located in the basement of the library. This museum holds artifacts from the history of Oxford. We have spinning wheels, kitchen gadgets, and civil war artifacts. Tours of the museum are given only on appointment.

Clara Barton

Clara Barton was born on Christmas Day, 1821, in Oxford, Massachusetts.

The Library holds a small collection of Clara Barton memorabilia and sources, however the Clara Barton Birthplace and Museum is one’s best option on doing more research on Ms. Barton. The non-circulating collection of Clara Barton books is located in our Local History room in the front part of the building. The room is open to the public.

Huguenots

The library has print materials and informational pamphlets available for more information about the Huguenots, as well as a diorama of the fort for display.

National Huguenot Society–Includes a listing of documented Huguenots ancestors, historical information, membership information, book reviews and a list of books and publications.

Cyndi’s List– This is a categorized & cross-referenced index to genealogical resources online.

The Huguenot Society of America -They have a essay on the history of the Huguenots and their contributions to colonial America.

Even more information is provided by The Huguenot Memorial Society of Oxford, Inc., which was organized in June of 1881.  Check out their website for more information, documents, and upcoming events!
