||Discover Irish culture during this live musical performance with Tim Loftus. Through traditional tunes, stories, and slide presentations, he'll shed the shillelagh Irish of green beer, fake accents, and leprechauns to reveal some real Irish culture. Tim will be accompanied by Norah Garvey, Irish step-dancer.
We'll also discover how the banjo, a traditional African instrument, became so popular in traditional Irish bands; what the connection is between the Native American Choctaws and the Irish potato famine of the 1840s; and learn about the blind Irish harpist Turlough O"Carolan's tune Si Bheag, Si Mhor, the prettiest tune ever written.
This is a family-friendly performance. It is free and open to the public.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Oxford Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
